Every book starts with a moment you can't plan for — and for us, that moment was the Assembly Alumni Day Party during Norfolk State University's 2025 Homecoming weekend.
DREAMERS VOL. 1 wasn't shot as a marketing campaign or a highlight reel. It was shot the way homecoming actually feels — loud, joyful, unscripted. Students, alumni, Greeks, couples, friends who'd flown in from three time zones away, all packed into one weekend in the 757. We wanted the camera to disappear into that energy, not sit outside of it.
That's the whole idea behind Vol. 1: representation isn't just about who gets photographed, it's about who's doing the photographing, and why. This book exists because HBCU homecoming culture deserves the same care, the same print-quality documentation, as any other cultural movement — not just a phone camera roll that disappears into an algorithm.

Vol. 1 is Norfolk State. It won't be the last campus we cover — this is the first entry in a series that's going campus by campus, homecoming by homecoming, building an archive of HBCU culture as it's actually lived.
